Week 5 analysis “Dress-up for elementary school”?...

When I was in elementary school it was jeans and t-shirts. If you wanted to “dress –up” for class you simply wore a dress or nice dress pants. For today’s elementary school girls not only do they wear jeans and t-shirts for every day wear they also feel they have to be just like mom and wear make-up to school. For some children they are not allowed to wear make-up. But for others they wear what I would consider too much make- up to school. Since I did not even question wearing make-up or dressing up for every day of school for me this is one subject that I as a mom have to say has gone too far. Now I understand that many girls want to be like the ones they see on television or in magazines but the whole glamour thing is too much for elementary school girls to be doing.
Some dermatologists would argue that wearing cosmetics is bad for your skin and complexion while others might say that if worn in moderation can be somewhat beneficial. I try to stay out of this whole argument. However I find my self as a mom of a first grader who is begging me to let her be like the other girls in her school and class for that matter and let her wear make-up. And dress outfits every day of the week.
This makes me want to stop and ask what ever happened to the fun of just being a kid?

4-1

since this module focused on hero's i am focusing my analysis on how much credit do we really give the normal every day hero's that put their lives on the line every day. The hero's that i am talking about are two different groups of people. The first group is the soldiers. And yes these guys do get a lot of acknowledgement and credit for keeping us a free country and assisting in pretty much policing the world. But do we give them enough credit for everything that they do?

the second group of people are our emergency service workers. This group of people includes the police officers and fire fighters that keep us safe and sound in our every day lives. Sometimes these people don't get all the credit they deserve. The police officers are often looked at as bad guys because a lot of them have to chase people down, give tickets and of course break up the fights and riots and then there is the breaking up parties.

Many of the officers in the united states have been in life and death situations more than once and often don't receive so much as a thank you for keeping us safe.

One of the issues that will be going on the November ballet for Franklin county in Columbus Ohio is doing a tax increase to help support these members of our community. I think that this is one issue that should be passed because shouldn't this be one way that we can say thank you for keeping us safe. In a since isn't it about time that we break down as a community and say thank you to our every day hero's that we pass every day and sometimes get aggravated with?

assignment 2-1

My analysis this week is focused on the growing ever so popular among all age groups MP3 players. These MP3 players are a great improvement from the older fashions of listening to music such as the walk man radio sets and the portable CD players. This specific item of musical entertainment can store your favorite songs so that you can listen to them at any given time.
One thing that is on the plus side for this item is that it is small and compact so that the mp3 player can fit in virtually any pocket or hiding space.
However in a sense these MP3 Players have somewhat become a problem in some schools and work places. The reason they are becoming a problem is that they can be hidden and many individuals and students are listening to music instead of listening to a lecture or working on an assignment. In some cases individuals are also becoming so involved in their music that they are forgetting to pay attention to detail which is important.
Though many adults have learned to multi task it can be debated on whether listening to music while in the workplace can be productive while in an office setting. And lets face the truth here even I must admit it is easy to lose track of what needs to be done when your favorite song is on the radio. Another fact that can be pointed out is that it is very difficult to carry on a conversation with someone who has ear pieces playing music in their ears.

icons

My 3 icons are football, the American bald eagle and also Abraham Lincoln. The first one of my icons which is football is a sport that was developed here in America as a game to almost combine the two games of rugby and what is known as soccer in England. This was Americas was of creating an original game similar to the one that had been outlawed in England and made illegal in the 1700 by king Henry the 3rd. The second one of the icons is the American bald Eagle which is a bird that is only found in America. And the third one of my icons is President Abraham Lincoln.

Football.

Football is one of many sports that we have here in America. When you are in another country for example England, And you mention the word football it is perceived that you are talking about soccer. So in this case and instance you need to specify American football and it then becomes something that almost everyone that you speak to identifies with as being specific to the United States of America. In an overview football is one sport that we find fun and one of the most interesting sports of the American time.

American Bald Eagle.

I chose this icon because to me this is one of the few living things that truly resembles the idea of freedom. This bird is rare and was once in danger of being extinct. In all reality this bird has truly made a comeback from what it was 50 years ago. To me this is a special animal that is truly unique.

Abraham Lincoln
I chose this icon because not only was he a president of the United States of America but he was the first person in America on record who made an effort to fight for the freedom and equality for all persons. This move paved the way for notable individuals in American history to make more notable moves. These individuals include Malcolm X, and also Martin Luther King Jr. America was founded on the principles of freedom and equality. It’s amazing how we started out doing just the opposite and finally as we approach the year 2010 we are closer now than we ever were when it comes to actually acting upon our true foundation ideal.

assignment 1-4

The current pop culture topic that I am going to address is the topic of texting. This method of communication is becoming more and more popular every day. Many cell Phone companies are beginning to develop phones that have a full alphabet key panel on them so that even the youngest of people who are able to own a cellular phone can text with the full spelling of the words correctly. Texting is also becoming so popular that schools such as middle schools and high schools are now sending home notices with the parents asking for cell phones to be left at home to help ensure the quality of education for the students. Many schools even elementary schools such as my daughters are putting policies in the handbooks against the use of cell phones during class time. Texting is beginning to become some what of a safety matter as well. As many of us have grown to almost not be able to live from day to day without the use of texting some are taking the matter too far. Many individuals are beginning to feel so comfortable with texting that they are doing it while operating a motor vehicle and walking through busy intersections. What they don’t realize is that it is a hazard to you and those around you when you pay so much attention to your phone that you forget that you are doing something that needs your attention. Texting while you should be paying attention to other things has led to individuals being hit by a car, in motor vehicle accidents or even killed for walking in front of heavy moving objects. I do text and know how important it is to not do this while driving. And personally feel that the only people who should be able to have access to texting are those responsible enough to know when to put it down.

I chose this immage because this is one of my favorite movies first of all. And the second reason is because it sort of describes the cultures and era's that all teens will face. i know that this movie is fiction but in a sense it represents most teens today when it comes to fitting in. And with teen culture one of the most important things is to fit in. Even with most adults it is percieved to be one of the most important things to fit in with your environment and career..
To me pop culture means wat is the popular trends in the curent culture of my immediate enviroment and area. pop culture is important to me at the current time as a stay home mom because i need to know what is out there for my 6yr old to get into. and for my future career it is important for me as a medical assistant to know what are the current signs and symptoms of the things that the patients i am treating are getting in to.
